Only one of the best songs ever…

Something’s Coming

Could be!
Who knows?
There’s something due any day;
I will know right away
Soon as it shows.
It may come cannonballin’
Down through the sky,

Gleam in its eye,
Bright as a rose!
Who knows?

It’s only just out of reach,
Down the block, on a beach,
Under a tree.
I got a feelin’ there’s a miracle due,
Gonna come true,
Comin’ to me!

Could it be? Yes, it could.
Something’s coming, something good,
If I can wait!
Something’s comin’, I don’t know what it is
But it is
Gonna be great!

With a click, with a shock,
Phone’ll jingle, door’ll knock
Open the latch!
Something’s comin’, don’t know when,
But it’s soon–
Catch the moon,
One-handed catch!
Around the corner,
Or whistling down the river,
Come on — deliver
To me!

Will it be? Yes, it will.
Maybe just by holdin’ still
It’ll be there!
Come on, something, come on in,
Don’t be shy,
Meet a guy,
Pull up a chair!

The air is hummin’,
And something great is comin’!
Who knows?
It’s only just out of reach,
Down the block, on a beach.
Maybe tonight.

What would life be like without music?

March 14, 2010 - Leave a Response

It would be horrible–life without music.

Tonight I went to see Michael Buble in concert. He rocks. My God, does he ever rock. (Well, not that he “rocks” at all but, you get the point.)

Aside: I think I was one of maybe 10 persons of color in the entire arena. My brethren, you don’t know what you’re missing!

What a voice! What stage presence! What a show!

Would I love classical music were it not for early exposure to Tom & Jerry? (You laugh, but think about it…) Would I love jazz and Latin music if my father hadn’t played these all the time and had his own drum?  (I want to call it a bongo, but bongos come in pairs, right? It was a single, taller, red drum and if any of my siblings are reading this, they are no doubt cracking up right now as they recall it.) Would I love Broadway musicals if West Side Story weren’t introduced to me at a young age?

Hard to say. It’s truly hard to say.
